The Corsican-Sardinian Gigaro, also known as the Mouflon (Ovis aries musimon), is a type of wild sheep found on the islands of Corsica and Sardinia in the Mediterranean. These animals are important in terms of biodiversity and are considered one of the ancestors of modern domestic sheep. The Mouflon are characterized by their robust build, short dark brown fur in winter that turns lighter in summer, and the impressive curved horns of the males, which are used for defense and as a display during mating rituals. Due to their habitat on these islands, they have adapted to a variety of terrains, from rocky mountainsides to wooded areas. Conservation efforts have been undertaken to ensure their survival, as their populations have faced threats from hunting and habitat loss.
