Manasija

Manasija (Serbian: Манасија) is one of the most important monasteries of Serbian medieval culture and belongs to the so-called “Morava School” (Moravska skola). It was founded by the Serbian despot Stefan Lazarevic between 1407 and 1418. Soon after its foundation, Manasija became one of the cultural centers of the region. His “School of Resava” was famous for its translations and copies of ancient Slavic, Latin and Greek manuscripts. Even after the fall of the despot it remained famous throughout the 15th and 16th centuries.
